Africa Leather and Leather Products Institute (ALLPI) is proud to announce the participation in Technical Cooperation Training Workshop under the title: “Strengthening the Quality Infrastructure for Selected Sectors in the EAC Project (95375-03):
The program was conducted at Kampala, Uganda by the National Metrology Institute (Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt - PTB)
The training program’s objective was to Capacity Building on the Implementation of the Quality Management Systems (QMS) Self- Assessment Tool for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMES) in the Leather Value Chain within the framework of the project for EAC.
The 4 days training program started on 9th and ended up on 12th July, 2024. The ALLPI participant Dr. Abdel Rahim M. Ahmed Quality Assurance Innovation and R&D Expert. The training was attended by 25 participants who are drawn from EAC countries (Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania and, Uganda) leather sector stakeholders.
The training workshop was officially open by Mr. Leo Okwahi, Chairperson for the workshop program representing the Republic of South Sudan, in his official opening remarks, Mr. Okwahi expressed his pleasure and honor on behalf of EAC to welcome ALLPI representative and the participants stating that the workshop’s aim is to equip the Leather Sector stakeholders and MSMES with know-how and raise the awareness at Quality Management System through QMS Toolkit. He further added that EAC recognizes the importance of the leather value chain in driving the economics growth of the sector urging them to take the opportunity to learn from the workshop. ALLPI Expert conducted presentation for a brief on ALLPI activities.
The workshop participants have paid a courtesy visit to Kawumu Leather Industry site as a practical example of how to use the self-assessment toolkit checklist for evaluating the gaps towards adoption of the Quality Management System.
On his closing remarks, Mr. Okwahi thanked ALLPI for its continuous support for development of leather sector in Africa.
