African Leather and Leather Product Institute (ALLPI) Conducted a training on Leather Footwear Design, Craftsmanship and Export Readiness for selected SME’s from Addis Ababa and different Region of Ethiopia from 8th to 12th October 2018 in Addis Ababa, Ethio- International footwear clusters cooperative societies (EIFCCOS) compound.
The main objective of the training was to develop the capacity of selected SMEs for the potential upgrading and value addition to exports through developing Leather Products Design, Craftsmanship and Export Readiness capacities. The aim of the training was to create the full understanding of the export market requirement and influence the best possible way in approaching the quality product which match local, regional and global demands.
As per the objective the dynamics and principles of advanced footwear and leather goods design Fashion trend forecast, Fashion design, Prototype shoe and leather goods was explored. The practical directional approach with respect to major manufacturing defects in leather shoe and leather goods making that comes from the craftsmanship, material used and customer complaint was addressed during the training. SMEs Footwear Export market readiness also discussed with respect to customer communication, meeting customer requirements and importance of delivery time. The knowhow, skills and attitude of footwear and leather goods producers in the Design, Craftsmanship for Export Readiness was also assessed during the training to evaluate the readiness for export.
The Training was conducted by Mr. Ferew Kebede footwear Technologist from Ethiopia and ALLPI Investment, Trade and Marketing expert Mrs. Birkinesh Gonfa as a facilitator of the Training Programme.
Thirty SME’s were participated in this training and Export readiness regarding product design preparation and development, product craftsmanship was addressed during the training. At the end of the training the certificate was issued and handover to participants by Mr. Nicholas Mudungwe Programme coordinator of Africa Leather and Leather product institute(ALLPI).
