Africa Leather and Leather Products Institute (ALLPI) Hosts East African Community (EAC) Secretariat in collaboration with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) during 22nd -25th January 2018.
The purpose of the Mission was to share from the Ethiopia experience from the perspective of industrial policy implementation.
ALLPI was officially requested to facilitate the experience sharing Mission to Ethiopia of the high-level EAC delegation.
The participants are from 6 countries which represents ECA secretariat, UNIDO representative from Dar-es-Selam, Tanzania and from partner states.

The delegate visited and held discussions with different government institution (Ethiopian Investment Commission, Ministry of Industry, Leather Industry Development Institute of Ethiopia, Textile and Garment Industry Development Institute of Ethiopia, Industrial Park Development Corporation Etc) and different sectors manufacturing companies (Automotive Industry Manufacturing, domestic and foreign footwear and glove manufacturers).

The final meeting was also held at ALLPI Headquarters during the final day of the visit; and the impression they gained in the Mission to Ethiopia was reflected by the delegates.

ALLPI promised to support EAC in developing East Africa Leather strategy and the unpacking of Tanzania Leather Strategy. The future collaboration regarding raw hides and skins upgradation and capacity building training in establishing strong SME’s also to be considered by signing MoU in the near future.

East Africa Community is one of the Regional Economic Communities in East Africa with Members Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, South Sudan and Uganda.
