The COMESA/LLPI Director initiated tree-planting event was organized on Friday April 19, 2013 to further enrich the green area of the Institute. The trees planted were native and some edible.
While planting the trees, staff exchanged views on the uses of trees in the ecosystem that encompass absorbing carbon dioxide, lowering ambient temperature, offering a burst of green cooling canopy, rejuvenating soil and their branches provide homes for birds. Although the Institute’s staff act seems very small and only symbolic, the bit it can contribute to the bigger target of fighting climate change is undeniable.
After the tree-planting event, the staff with the Institute’s Director spent few minutes around the revitalized fish pond. The cement lined raised fish pond currently has 12 ornamental fishes 5 of which are common Goldfish variety.
